We are now looking back on our first annual Alabama Urology Network state meeting. The meeting was a success with an abundance of support from industry and attendance from physicians, students, and advanced practice providers from throughout the state.
Our focus for the 2023 annual meeting was on prostate cancer. Dr. Christopher Keel reviewed the updated AUA guidelines for PSA screening and prostate cancer diagnosis. We also had excellent talks on options in focal radiation therapy by Dr. Brian Richardson and Dr. John Nix. Dr. Andrew McDonald discussed controversies in radiation therapy in advanced prostate cancer. Dr. Joelle Hamilton discussed options in oncologic treatment for advanced prostate cancer. Our guest lecturers included Dr. Raju Thomas from Tulane discussing the history of the radical prostatectomy, and Dr. John Lin from Arizona talking on strategies to maximize success in our practices. Dr. William Terry discussed managing the future of men’s health.
Our receptions with our industry partners were well attended. We enjoyed good food and time for socializing.
Next year, we are looking forward to another fabulous event. We plan to keep our venue on the Gulf Coast of Alabama but may choose a different venue. We plan to start the meeting on Friday at noon to free up all of Saturday afternoon for family time, and then conclude at 10am Sunday to ensure adequate CME hours. We are formalizing our topics and speakers for next year and should be able to announce all the details early in spring of 2024.
